Site builders must have much better eyesight than I do

Scroll down to the list of compatible DSLRs and lenses: does that seem like a good text color to use with a fairly dark background? It's all but unreadable on my monitor (which is calibrated).

I wonder what kind of setup was used to buld and view this page…

I can read that page in Firefox without as much trouble as I thought, given how you described it.

While it wouldn't be my first choice for how to present a page to the public, I've seen far, FAR worse.

In other words, people are stupid.

I agree ka jowct, I frequently have to increase the font size of a website so large that only two or three words will fit in the narrow column between advertisements.

Yeah, bad color choices. The "Free Demo" in the nav is also a bad choice, other than the mouseover.

There's not enough contrast between the saturation levels of those colors. Use Universal Access to convert the screen to grayscale and you'll see what I mean.

What makes it even worse is people on your average CRT wont be able to read it, even with good eyes. I just tried it on my test monitor (kept around specifically for testing sites on less than "pro" equipment) and I can't read the text without really trying.

I'm viewing it in Firefox also. There isn't enough difference in value between the blue text in the list of camera models and lenses and the gray background for it to be readable, unless I bump up the type size.

I actually find the blue on grey to be quite easy on the (my) eyes. Switching back and forth from this forum to that I find the bright white contast around the text here to be very harsh. The other site makes me feel less like I'm staring into the sun and more like I'm reading a book.

Maybe my monitor is just too bright.

I'm guessing your monitor is VERY bright. Maybe it's time to tweak your settings.

Looks ok, not great using Safari and 23" Apple display.

Yeah, this coming from my work PC, it's a HP LCD, brightness set to 85 out of 100. Windows gamma must screw with it though. Haven't checked it on my mac at home yet. Although, my Dell 20" LCD was so intensely bright out of the box I had to turn it all the way down to the lowest possible setting. It's good now.
