... looks to be:

2 sable banded (banding looks decent!)

2 mink (not clear if banded, but at least one looks maybe not banded)

7 cream? (not clear how many of these are banded)

11 total !

Pinkies! Food for Stephanie's snakes!
My bubba brother would've called 'em fish bait.

I bet they'll be real cute in a week or so!

DaviDC, no way are these guys (and gals) going to become snake food.

Whatever I do not keep is going to get adopted out... there will be a small adoption fee and screening process.

Trust me, they will be very cute fairly soon. Maturation time is VERY quick. Link for very good description of the pregnancy / growth process:

Steph, I guess you must have missed the original thread, here: [forums.macresource.com]

Edit: wow, amazing how much they have developed even just in six days. Compare old pics with the ones above and you'll see what I mean.

yum, please pass the ketchup.

I went through this many times with my kid's gerbils, it was fun. When I was kid they always got eaten by the mom.

We had about four or five litters with my kid's gerbs and every one of them made it. Our school was heavily populated with the offspring from the orginal gerb, Browny. We also had Toads, Frogs, Snakes...I hate the smell of crickets.

Nice job...are you breastfeeding them?

Kraniac, I'm not sure what you're trying to say -- dunno what ketchup has to do with this. And Freya is breastfeeding them, natch! She's a pretty attentive mom, from what I can see. Amazing to the degree to which her behavior appears to be hardwired...

Yes Peter, I had missed it.

On one of the snake food websites, there's a chart that shows the different stages of baby rodents (& roughly how long it takes them to mature).

Dont worry though - I can still differentiate between pets & snake food. smiling smiley

Let's see - it goes: pinkies (small pinks & then large), fuzzies (peach fuzzies & then fuzzies), hoppers, weanlings & then adults & then jumbo adults (retired breeders). Of course, that's just for mice - more categories for rats.

I cant wait to see them when the get more fur (so they won't look so much like the pinkies & fuzzies I have).

Yup, check out the link I gave above for a pic of 12-day olds... they're really cute, look like super-mini versions with different colors.

11 in one litter?!?? I don't remember our hammies (when we had them) ever having more than about 5 or 6 at a time. Congrats

Yep, 11 in one litter (I had originally thought it was a straight dozen, but I wasn't sure). That's not really unusual; range is 5-24, typical might be 8 or so. In her case, there were some factors that might have come into play-- the fact that she was older as a first-time mom and so was very well fed and in really good condition for her first litter. Also that her cycles seemed to be really, really off-- I had a really hard time to figure out when she was in heat (it's supposed to be every four days, but she seemed to be totally irregular). She didn't get pregnant the first time either, which is consistent with her cycles being off. Anyway... 11 is high but not really unusual. Noteworthy is that she hasn't to my knowledge eaten any of them, which from what I've read, suggests that they're all healthy and that a majority of them are likely to be female.

sam -- 1) keep the best for use in later crosses (remember that unfortunately these guys only live 2-3 years typically); 2) take the remainder, adopt out or give to friends; 3) take the remainder after that, give to a pet store for them to adopt out
