Fingers crossed - been a while since I've seen a night launch. Wife's first cousin is the program manager for the solid rocket booster pyro system - she just called to say she's there watching... wish I was there too! smiling smiley

we were going to drive out from Orlando, but the wife and I are too tired after attending the neighborhood Christmas party. We'll probably go outside and see if we can see it from here. Lots of clouds though, so if it does go up we may not see it.

Seeing a night launch is awesome. I've seen about 5 of them. Even a day launch is awesome.

We live in eastern part of Orlando, only about 25 miles from Titusville and Cape Canaveral. I can walk right out of my front door and watch the launch day or night! But I am sooo excited about another night launch. They are so beautiful! The launch will literally light up the entire eastern sky like daylight.

I saw a night launch live in December 1990. Parked on the side of the road around 6PM and waited until around 1:30am. Really lit up the entire area, and you could easily follow it on the way up. Timing just worked perfect for me, I was in Orlando for a conference, and the shuttle actually launched on the scheduled date.

From Tampa you can see launches, night and day, very clearly. We saw a night launch in 2002 from the Pier in St. Pete that was so clear you could see the SRB separation!

I swear they're just playing with us. Now it's not looking as good because of weather...

9:16 p.m. - There are about 10 minutes left in the T-9 minute built-in hold, and we are currently "red" for thick clouds in our forecast.

9:02 p.m. - Weather update: The transatlantic abort landing site at Zaragoza, Spain is "go," but the ceiling at Kennedy Space Center is currently too low, putting weather here into the "no-go" category for now.

8:52 p.m. - Launch Director Mike Leinbach just announced that the team is planning to launch at the preferred time of 9:35:48 p.m. this evening.

All in 24 minutes.

Good Luck!
