A post I left elsewhere...

I am a Turner Classic Movies and classic films junkie. This is why I can smugly say that it's laughable for me to see people discuss film on social media. Laughable! Not to mention also being a life long Ted Turner super fan boy. So it is with great appreciation that I say goodbye to the king of classic cinema disseminator Robert Osborne, who left us today. He is now in movie heaven. #tcm #classicfilm #cinema

Always liked his back stories. RIP...

Heard their hit the other day and thought, "why haven't I remembered these guys?"

Though I watch a ton of TCM, there are always shows I don't care for. Even for those, I would often tune in just to hear his commentary.

Thanks and RIP Mr. Osborne

I agree! It's going seem strange without him.

Robert Osborne will, indeed, be missed.

Any chance someone might remember the title of a movie he showed? It was a western (maybe by Howard Hawks, but I could be wrong). The scene he showed was the protagonist crossing a river in winter. Even though the film was in color, that scene looked like it was filmed in black and white—except for the red jacket worn by the protagonist.

Robert Osborne related a story that the director was surprised that no one else had noticed the contrast that he (the director) had gone to great effort to create.

In this past week, I watched his commentaries on the Thin Man series and a number of Bob Hope films. His commentaries really did add to the enjoyment of the films. I hadn't thought of him since taping these movies about 17 years ago.

I'm thinking that sounds like the John Wayne, Montgomery Clift movie "Red River." bit that's in black and white.

Yeah, I thought it might have been "Red River" as well. The scenery of the river crossing had snow on the banks and trees that made the landscape look like it was in the mountains.

Dang it! Last time we were watching I mentioned to my Pop that he didn't look quite well.

I love the older movies, and TCM was one of a handful of channels that I'll put up with. RO always made them sound interesting.

R.I.P.
