Who is using an electric shaver?

What is the best one?

Real reviews are hard to find..Best Buy has a huge rack.......of them

Another case of wth to buy..

I shave my face and I shave my head..Hope you guys do too.

1) what kind of beard/hair you have?
2) do you get razor burn or ingrown hairs?
3) dry or wet?
4) have you preferred rotary or oscillating in the past?
5) is a good integrated trimmer a must?

There have been at least 3 significant electric shaver threads but I don't have them bookmarked to easily post. Consumer Reports had a test last April but those models might not be available now.

1) What kind of beard/hair you have? -Heavy, even gnarly.

2) Do you get razor burn or ingrown hairs? Not really..sometimes my neck is little bit sensitiive but I've seen worse.

3) Dry or wet? Dry, baby.

4) Have you preferred rotary or oscillating in the past? I have only stolen my Son's Rotary Norelco..it works pretty well for me on head and face

5) Is a good integrated trimmer a must? Not really sometimes I trim my ears - but they pretty much stopped growing after the Tuba incident.

My problem is I have fine curly facial hair that lies very flat and sensitive skin. I get a half dozen ingrown hairs on the lowest half inch of my neck on a daily basis if I'm not very, very careful about shaving that area.

My most recent shaver purchase was a Braun 740s at LostDough for about $120. It shaves both wet and dry, but dry shaving it drops shaven hair all over even if you clean it after every use. It shaves too close even on my chin and cheeks if I'm not careful. Battery lasts several days and has a battery meter. The cord has an integrated wallwart, so you can't use a standard electric shaver cord. There is a center cutter that is better than average at trimming longer hairs if you skip a day or two. The pop-out trimmer for sideburns is poor for anything but basic sideburns use.

Many women, so I've been told (sorry couldn't resist - please don't banish us to the dark side of the forum) are using permanent laser removal on part of their body (not even going to give the forum nanny a clue).. consider most men have to shave everyday, it's odd that it hasn't caught on for men.

Sounds like the rotary norelco solution will work for you. It's really a YMMV situation, because every face varies. I tried both Norelco and Braun, and ended up with the Braun.

And... dare I ask... Tuba incident ?????

My own preference is for the Braun series 7. If you know Norelco works for your beard, though, it might be worth sticking with that. As cbelt3 said, YMMV - Norelco does nothing for me but massage my face and occasionally pluck out a whisker by accident.

I tried both rotary and double foil of Braun. Preferred Braun. Easier for me to clean and works fine on my thick facial hair. Tried a Remington foil shaver and the foil failed quickly.

I use Braun, which works okay, but I haven't made any shaver comparison for years.

A few tips from using an electric/rechargeable shaver.
Your face will get used to whatever shaver you use. Don't give up on one because it irritated your face. Give up on it if it fails to cut. I usually go one to three days between shaves. Braun shaver does fine.
Keep the hair fairly short or either type will have trouble with mowing it down and you will have to tame it with another trimmer or razor first to get the hair down. Happens to me if I go over a week without shaving.
Clean and replace the cutting head as recommended by the manufacturer. Also protect the cutting head. The last thing you want is to replace a $35 cutting head because somebody decided to smash the @#$%& out of it when they packed it wrong in the suitcase. You also don't want to try to use a damaged cutting head on your face, that is unless you want to be known as scar face.
Only charge it when the meter tells you to. Overcharging will kill the batteries lifespan.

Remember to clean and oil regularly. Just because the marketing material says "self-sharpening", it doesn't mean self-cleaning or self oiling. When properly cared for, those electric razors will last as long as the battery lets 'em.

Oh, and if you're taming w/ another trimmer, get one that plays nice w/ your face and beard... I recently got a new Wahl trimmer to replace a Norelco that the battery is only barely holding a charge, and the Wahl is a lethal weapon; sumbiotch works great w/ the various comb attachments, but when it's naked, you need to keep the shaving angle very precise, because it's not very forgiving and is very, very sharp. IOW, you gotta pay attention to what you're doing, no more auto-pilot. Also, not sure if they still make 'em like they used to, but Panasonic used to have some highly regarded electric shavers. I've been using Norelcos for years as a main duty shaver, but had a Panasonic for special occasions. Never replaced it when its battery finally gave out. IIRC, it and the Braun used to duke it out in the foil category, so that may be another option to consider. @#$%& luck.

I'm a fan of Norelco shavers, my dad used them, and that's what I started with and have liked always. But even between Norelcos there are differences, I have one that I positively embrace, while another one is one that seems to skate over the beard, and not cut it well unless it's really short.

Norelco doesn't work for me at all.

I didn't like my Braun, but that was more irritating than poor cutter.

I ended up with a Remington shaver first, then go over my neck area with a disposable blade. Works ok.

Try different approaches.
