Duke vs. Notre Dame

Possibly the best game of 'March Madness'; Brooklyn was rockin' last night!

When the Big East imploded in 2013.

That's how much I pay attention.... Thought they were still independent.

Yes, Big10 was all or nothing, so ND picked nothing (I'm not sure Big10 negotiations even got off the ground). ND's penetration into the Midwest was a big plus for the ACC. Moreover, ND football plays an abbreviated ACC schedule--5 games a year, which the ACC finds helpful to its generally struggling football reputation (I know, Clemson has down all right lately). I don't know if these games count towards the other team's league schedule. To accommodate the move, ND dropped Michigan from its schedule, which thoroughly pissed off the guys from Ann Arbor (ND kept Michigan St. on their schedule, which was particularly insulting because they Maize and Blue always look down their collective nose at MSU even when MSU is better).

ND was definitely willing to accept these terms in order to allow its "lesser" sports to compete in a league. These other sports do not have the same aura--or monetary draw--that football does, so they are much better off being in a league. Basketball in particular benefits greatly from the ACC affiliation.
