ever give a goat to charity?

I've been reading about charities where you buy a goat or a cow rather than simply fund money. Anyone ever do this? Through what organization?

Heifer International has a program where you can give individual animals to families that need a source of milk, cheese or eggs.

I hope this was what you were looking for.

this was discussed a few days ago:

<[forums.macresource.com];

turns out you don't really give an animal - just the idea of an animal, i suppose...

The members of the Chik-Fil-A Charitable Foundation strongly support donating a cow of a goat. They'll even spring for a spit and matches.

My inlaws gave a sheep to (or via?) Heifer International in our name. I am disappointed to hear that someone did not receive a sheep with our name cut out of its fleece.

There's a guy in our company that solicits donations each year to give goats to AIDS orphans in Africa, via World Vision. Last year we gave 245 goats; we're approaching 100 so far this year.

My wife and I gave a goat and sheep to someone this year (I think). She actually did the work. I'm not exactly what the name of the organization was, but it looks like the same stuff. She got a catalog at church

Seems cool to me, but unfortunately I've become cynical about a lot of things. I'll check up on them at some point, but I haven't had the chance yet.

Ok, I did it. I donated in three parts. 1) share towards a deep well, 2) food for the hungry, and 3) money to get kids out of the sex trade. Sorry, no goat or cow this time. Thanks for all the comments as I was working through the decision.

All were done through World Vision which had a very good rating at Charity Navigator.
