Okay, here you go. Friday night poll

In response to Rick-o's thread below, here's a useless question to ponder. If you could acquire a skill you don't already have by virtue of a snap of the finger (or magic genie or whatever), what would it be? For example:

• play ______ (musical instrument) like _______ (musician)
• sing like __________
• be fluent in several languages
• play ________(favorite sport) like_________ (favorite athlete)

For the sake of this exercise, let's not go with something like finding the cure for cancer or being able to dream winning lottery numbers. I purposely didn't make it a poll because there are just too many options. But I thought it would be a nice frivolous Friday night fantasy.

Personally, I'd have a hard time deciding among the first three I listed.

My family is musical, I am not.

Though I'd love to know other languages, being able to sing decently would impact my daily life for the better!

Well, I'm fluent in Nihongo, love that, but I'd probably say sing like .... Pavorotti (sp?), Perry Como, Kenny Vance, oh, so many more. bubb rubb smiley

I teach folk dance and would LOVE to have at the tip of my tongue the instructions for any number of dances. I have to rely on written notes and that just doesn't cut it!

One of my unfinished projects is understanding calculus. NOT understanding calculus wiped out a career in chemistry oh so many years ago. My career worked out just fine as it happened but someday I'd like to understand why I care about the area under a curve divided into an infinite number of little squares or otherwise

My mom grew up in Slovakia, could talk to Czechs, Poles, Russians and Moravians, and a couple others. Always envied her.

Drums like Bernard Purdie, sports like Serena Williams, sing like Billie Holiday. I'd love to be fluent in several languages but am not. I'll always regret not taking advantage of all the Italian spoken in my house when I was growing up. But back then the emphasis was on "being American" and assimilating. If I had it to do over again I'd press my grandmother and aunts to teach me their native tongue. I'm sure they would have been happy to do so if I'd shown an interest.

sing. like anyone decent. I have a pretty horrible singing voice. the instrument thing I can do with practice, but singing has always struck me as unobtainable. of course, I know voice lessons would help, but I'm pretty awful...

I would like to play the ukulele well and we able to sing. I've been taking ukulele lessons and the progress goes slowly. When I try to sing along with the music I realize how bad of a singer I am!

Several good responses above that I agree would be nice to achieve.

Drawing/painting would be a another skill I would love to have. Currently, I can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler! It amazes me how some people can transfer lifelike images from their minds to paper.

Me? If I tried to paint a bowl of fruit, it might come out looking like a herd of cattle. Then, maybe! smiley-shocked003

Of the listed choices, my first choice would be play guitar like Stevie Ray Vaughn. The rest, in no particular order,
Sing like Sinatra in his prime.
Be fluent in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Russian, Japanese, Arabic (Farsi?), and French.
Play basketball like Magic (Sorry Bird, Michael, Doctor, Jerry).

Unlisted, dance like Gene Kelly, play poker like Daniel Negreanu, write like Aaron Sorkin, understand physics like Hawking.
