Sometimes I feel overrun by people's rude offspring. Talking over adults. I had to figure out a formal entry point in order to gain my mother's attention enough to interject a simple yes or no request. Now they just butt in.

Then yet again, I'm running down a super busy street with very few red lights. Up ahead I see an elderly woman with a cane trying to figure out how to calm the cars enough in order to cross the street (at a crosswalk mind you). I see two young men walking towards her (and me) and I "assume" they will help this woman with this OBVIOUS problem get across the road.

But No. Dumbass one and two walk RIGHT PAST HER! Now here I have to stop and make all of the cars stop so that she could cross.

I catch up to them and scold them. To their credit they feel bad about it. I told them that it's not a good look AT ALL. And they threw trash on the sidewalk like it was nothing. I say, "who's gonna clean that up, the squirrels? All of this goes to the bay" jeeeeeezus.

Don't be selfish.

Some times all you can do is present a good example.

I smile broadly at people. Even when driving. And I can see the realization in their eyes, and suddenly they smile back. And boom... just like that, someone is having a better day.

(Admittedly if you cut me off my smile is masking a sotto voce comment about the nature of your heritage, upbringing, and personal sexual habits with livestock...)

I was brought up that you just don't do certain things such as well, littering. You certainly can't expect others to clean up after you. Geez!

In any case, many, or perhaps most people today don't do the right thing unless they think someone is watching.

We have one long Main Street that people have trouble getting across. If I stop for a pedestrian, almost every time, the driver coming toward me will stop and they can go across safely.

I had a little confrontation with some young adults the other day.

I was grocery shopping at a large store early in the morning. A couple had a small puppy running loose in their shopping cart INSIDE the store. I told them it was unsanitary and wasn't considerate for other people who would be using the cart. They seem to laugh it off and told me maybe I should complain to the manager. I told the next worker I saw who went and talked to them.

Later I saw them carrying the puppy in their arms. I'd like to think I made a little bit of difference by speaking out.

How do you know the two people didn't tweet about it to raise awareness? That counts for something, right? Afterall, it's about the greater good. Anything you can do on your own is just anecdotal.
