BJ's is looking for a buyer. Amazon is interested, but it seems Sam's or Costco is a better fit.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

We need to teach our sons the harsh facts of life (and marriage).

Why do you think this, did they announce something? There is a BJ and Costco across the street from each other here, and they are always busy.

The owners are shopping banks for the sale or IPO.

The ones around here are not being maintained. Getting very run-down. Let my membership expire because every time that I went there the computers and registers were down and check-out lines stretched to the back of the store.

Reminds me of the situation when a local apartment REIT was taken over by an investment group that put it up for bids. For several years they went without maintenance/upkeep in the common-areas and grounds and cut every corner, milking as much as they could out of it with as little put back in as they could get away with legally before the sale.

Costco is by far the better option 'round here.

Clever subject line click bait, pRICEcUBE. I wonder if BJ's Wholesale Club hasn't ventured outside of the eastern U.S. because it doesn't do as well as Costco or Sam's Club.

There are 41 BJs locations within 100 miles of me here in Massachusetts. There are 7 Costcos within that same circle.

Local Costco stores around here (central NJ) seem to be pretty good, I don't recall being in line more than 5-10 minutes. Now at the ShopRite on the other hand, if you happen to be behind someone who disputes a price and then they have to call the manager and send someone back to check the labels... forget it.
