get out the funk! deodorant suggestions

I am allergic to most deodorants, so it's rare that I find one I can use, and when I do they often eliminate it. Have any "natural" suggestions?

Sometimes, even the natural options don't agree with me.

I've been using a rock.

Really.. Alum. It's a rock crystal. Not crystal like "crystal gripping pyramid wearing hippies" type crystal, it's " hydrated potassium aluminium sulfate " and it's anti-bacterial.
Rub it in the smelly areas, and it keeps the bacteria colonies that make that nasty cheesy smell down.
Takes a couple days to start working.

Bought my first one on Amazon for about $8. Dropped that one (it's a fragile rock! Fragile.. not fraggle.. ), and found that for $2 at the local Chinese food store, I could get a baggie full of alum crystals.

I just don't like the heavy odors of most deodorants, and alum is odor free.

I can't do aluminum salts (rash) so it's just plain deodorant (no antiperspirants) for me. Which can be hard to find sometimes.

There's a number of "natural" homemade concoctions based on baking soda ( baking soda and coconut oil, baking soda and shea soap, etc. ) Have you tried making your own like that ?

That's a personal adventure, gotta just keep trying until you find what works for you. What works for others may not work for you. Sadly, after several months/years, what once worked, may stop working and the search begins again. Funk removal is part art, part science, and part dumb luck. Good luck.

Yeah, thanks for the suggestions I am allergic to aluminum and somewhat allergic to most natural deodorant as well, so it's rare that I find one that I like toms of maine seem to have changed their formulation over the years and I don't agree as much with those. some baking soda formulations are not too bad

I came up allergic to standard deodorant about 10 years ago, and finally found this. Works great, and one bottle lasts for months. Much better all around than the Toms of Maine stuff.

....the rocks don't work that well and you have to wet the rock, then apply, then wait for it to dry. Works in Winter but don't try it in summer, it won't stand up.......same with Tom's of Maine......it goes on wet, wait to dry and it works o.k. in Winter but forget about Summer......

......the only thing that really works is the Clinical strength but that is Aluminum so if you are sensitive that won't work......

....perhaps the shots of botox in the pits might work.......???

It took me many years to finally realize that I was essentially allergic to antiperspirants, they made me get huge sweat stains under my arms. Switched to plain deodorant and the soggy pits were gone...

Allergic to Alum also. I have to make do with deodorant and not antiperspirant.

Reducing bacterial load with 70% isopropyl alcohol may help reduce the odor, if nothing better is tolerated.

yeah, I'm allergic to antiperspirants too. I mainly use Speed Stick, or sometimes Degree deodorant. They seem to work ok for me.

I also cannot use that aluminum stuff. For me, various scents of Old Spice deodorant, not anti perspirant, has worked very good. Also Arm & Hammer baking soda deodorant works great, no breaking out, no itching nor rashes with these two. I have some Tom Maine, but not liking it so much. I hate body stinking, and Ethyl has given me the command: we are not going to start looking old (this one's very debatable), acting old, nor smelling old, even though we are old. Old Fogette

For me, it was the dipropylene glycol, an ingredient fond in the majority of deodorants, that caused a rash. Proplylene glycol did not. I read the ingredient list of the deodorants and those two compounds are often found in deodorants but rarely together. By process of elimination, I found that the ones that contained only propylene glycol did not cause me problems.

I found a few deodorants that I can use, Original Old Spice, Mennon Speedstick, and Brut.

I don't use anti-antiperspirant so I do not have any suggestion for those.

Hope this helps.

As Bill mentions you could try to roll your own: part coconut oil, part baking soda.
