6ft USB-C to USB-C cable? Anyone have a source?
Posted by: sekker

My LG monitor came with a 3ft cable.

I would like to have a longer cable for my monitor.

Anyone have a source for a 6ft cable? 3ft ones are as inexpensive as $4.50 from monoprice.

TIA!

I picked up my USB-C and USB-C/Thunderbolt cables (yes, they're two different cables) from Amazon.

If your LG display is one of the ones that Apple is selling, you need the latter. A USB-C cable that's not rated for Thunderbolt is not likely to work.

Ok, thanks. Can you tell me your search terms?

There is a Belkin USB C to USB C at the Apple Store for about $30.

It took me a couple of searches, Thunderbolt 3 USB-C

$20 - [www.amazon.com]/

Sorry, that's a 3-ft.

What you want based on what I get from search results, is a 2-m (1.8-m) USB-C to USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 cable. A USB 3.1 Gen 1 cable won't live up to the throughput from my recollection.

3 ft.

If someone can post a link to a 6ft cable, I'd appreciate it!

Will the one that came with the MacBook Pro power adapter work? If so, you can just buy another from Apple and they're about six feet long.

I think you may need an active cable like this one.

...Unfortunately, reviews are not positive.

Interesting discussion of the LG displays/cables here:

I looked on eBay, because you can often find cables from China for ridiculously low prices. Not so with these, as far as I can tell, but here's one from a US reseller for $32 shipped.

Don't know anything about this product, so buyer beware.

Thanks, that one looks like the $60-70 Cable that Belkin and Apple distribute. There appears to be a single cable supplier for the 6ft cable.

Interesting, the HP Envy 4K USBC monitor comes with a 6ft cable, but the LG comes with a 3ft cable.

This is for connecting a 5K monitor or 2 4k

I went with the $30 version, seems more than sufficient for me.
