Who makes a good blender? (gift for wife)

And yes, it's a good thing she doesn't come here.

I think she is looking for a model that crushes ice. She loves her daiquiris and margaritas.

Any suggestions. I need to find one soon.

First; [www.willitblend.com] [added] and [www.blendtec.com]

Second; never get your wife an appliance. My wife had some great advice that I began following years ago: always something sparkly.

(Oh, I get her the appliance type stuff and iPod stuff, but that's routine and throughout the year. Birthdays, Christmas, and Valentines Day *require* sparkly -- and that's my rule, not hers.)

You may be safer buying a unitasker ;) Buying appliances for your wife for Xmas is a big no-no. Anything that can be used in the kitchen is not safe - can be used against you way later in life. smiling smiley

But buying a machine that is JUST for relaxation.....

If you know she wants a blender, especially to make tasty icy drinks, I say go ahead and get her one.

I asked for and got an installed garage door opener for Christmas-yes I know it isn't Christmas yet, but I got it early. I would rather not get wet and cold having to open the garage door than to have another "sparkly" thing. But I am probably the exception rather than the rule, so don't necessarily go by me. grinning smiley

Let me be clear: I get the practical stuff for her all the time. I get the sparkly stuff at holidays. She's not asking for it, nor requiring it -- don't let me paint a skewed picture of her here. But she does like it. And she deserves it, and so very much more.

I researched the blazes out of this a couple of months ago.

The absolute best value, bar none, is the refurb Kitchenaid from Amazon. Lists for about $130, goes on sale for about $90, refurbed for $40 with free shipping. Buy one and spend the rest on something sparkly, if appropriate:

I got one, and it's quieter, faster, and stronger than anything else out there for the $--oh, and it works better, too, and the jar part is glass, so it doesn't scratch the way plastic does.

. . .I like the KitchenAids also. ..mainly because I've had good luck with their appliances and they seem to have good reputations. . .sometimes they cost more though. . .

Gotta agree. Get the refurbed KitchenAid and then spend the other money on something personal.

Thanks for the link, anonymouse1!

That takes care of something practical; now to find something special.

Take a look next time your at your local bar and see what the bartender is using, 9 times out of 10 you will see this exact blender!!

I bought a barely used "professional" waring blender at a yard sale for $5.00. It is pretty good.

My dad bought my mom a snowblower one Christmas.
Boy was she mad.

A couple years later, after he passed away, she admitted it was actually a pretty good practical gift.
He didn't want her shovelling snow any more.
His intention was the gift of no mor shovelling snow for you.

A lovely parting gift, in a literal sense.
