Refurb ipod 20GB - $119 at Applestore

Just picked up a last minute stocking stuffer from the A.S. They have the older 4G ipods starting at $119.00. I've been waiting for a 4GB nano, but for $20 and foregoing the size difference, this seems like a pretty good deal. They also have the 30GB for $149 and the 60GB for $199.00.

Though I've been desiring the iPod video, this 4g 20 gigger hit my sweet spot of temptation overpowering will-power.

So I don't get to watch videos. I can still show off iPhoto slide shows and can sync with a Firewire cable (sold separately).

Arghh! Why did Apple have to do this??? ::resisting temptation.... failing fast::

If I sell the 1 gig shuffle and it's new speakers that I just ordered...

Once you hit the 30 and 60 giggers, the refurb iPod videos seem to be a better deal. They are only $30 more. Unless you need the Firewire.

And, since it's a 4G iPod, you can pretend that you've had it for a while.

Holy crap...

Just ordered one of the 30GB 5Gs for my wife for Christmas (please don't belittle me...she REALLY would not care if it's refurbed...she'd actually be mad at me if I paid full price). Now I see the click wheels for $100 and think maybe I should cancel my first order. We have twins coming in May, and could use the $80 difference. Again, she'd agree with me 1000% on the money, even though it's a gift.

To top it all off, I placed the first order forgetting the 5Gs were USB only. We're operating on a G3 iMac right now. My workaround was going to be to clone my drive to my external, boot my dad's eMac off it, and do the initial load that way. Incremental updates after that wouldn't be as painful. Planning on a new 'puter sometime in the next six months, but again, the money issue.

Anyone have any advice from the perspective of money issues and babies on the way, using a USB iPod with USB 1.1, loading an iPod off a different computer with an external boot (will it recognize the eMac and iMac as two separate computers, or will it see the same OS install and same iTunes library as being the same), or anything else to offer me?

Never mind my earlier queries. Went ahead and cancelled the 5G and went with a 4G instead. When my wife started talking about her own iPod, I had a mini in mind anyway. Missed out on those, so decided to go with the 5G...even though she said she figured 4GB would be plenty.

With more thought on the matter, I decided I didn't want her to have to labor with USB 1.1, and I don't know if a new system is really on the horizon right now or not. Plus, with more thought, I'm pretty sure the iPod would link itself to the system...not the boot drive, thus making my first-load plans just that...a load (of s***).

Thanks, forum, for letting me talk things through!

She'll have more than enough labor to deal with from the baby that's on the way, anyway... winking smiley
