good find, Carm. no rebates always a plus...
been dealing w/ provantage for years, and they occasionally have remarkable deals. s&h can be a bit steep at times, but I've found a phone call can often get them reduced a bit.


Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

Does anyone have any experience with this printer?

I looked around for some reviews, but I just seem to keep pulling up the same five reviews repackaged over several different sites. Consensuses seems to be that it's rather an ink hog, but if anyone has any first hand experience with the machine I'd love to hear it.

Is the ink that these things use really water resistant as the description says, or are they just being overly optimistic?

my epson r320 is great for printing on cd's, but the ink smears with water. If this can truely print on cd's that don't smear, that's a major plus. Surprised I haven't heard of this. Does anyone have this printer and can confrim the cd print quality and water resitant reliability?

I'm guessing no third party ink for this one though.

well this comment regarding smear proof isn't promisng:

"I bought this mainly for Direct DVD/CD printing.I was curious about their "claria" ink that says smudge resistant, water-resistant.I tried printing a page in a website and dipped the printed paper in water...the ink fade and start "bleeding". Same thing with dvd/cds."

Tempted, but 2.5 stars on Amazon is hardly "mixed" -- that's downright awful.

Plus, what I need is not another inkjet, but a solid color laser that will do photographic quality output. Anyone? Anyone?

Finally... the item description at Provantage does say smear resistant, but doesn't say specifically that that's true for CD's (I would assume it is, but of course you never know).

As the person who said "mixed", I think it's a fair description--the 2.5 stars is about balanced between, "Oh my Gawd, this thing is better than winning the lottery" and "I wouldn't take one if you paid me." Like I said, mixed.

Except it comes with starter carts, about half the capacity of the retail carts.

Replacement (non-Epson) carts for that series haven't really made an appearance yet. But, you can find them @ Shop 4 Tech and PC WebShopper (6/$18) [store.pcwebshopper.com]

I managed to get one with 13.45 shipping for $30.38 total.

I have a R200 and it doesn't load CD's properly for printing. Hopefully this one will work better.

I have gone thru an R200, R220 and R300 and they all came with full carts. I didn't know that Epson did low volume starters.

panopticon may be confused by the way the first set of carts use so much ink for the initial ink charging, the ink monitor reads less than full?

My new ink hog should be here today, says Fedex tracking.
