If you sell on ebay and plan to accept any form of PayPal, you have to accept all forms. This includes CCs. That means you should use a premier or business account. You will be charged fees on all payments. The fees, assuming you don't qualify for a volume rate discount, are 2.9% + 30 cents per transaction (echeck fees are capped at $5).

If you want to qualify for the Seller Protection Policy, one of the criteria is to have a verified account. That means you need to link a bank account.

Well ours was setup many years ago but it's attached to our checking account and has a
CC registered with it. At the time your SS# was all that was needed to make it Confirmed
but I believe it has to a CC now. If you really want to be safe open a free checking account
somewhere and attach it to it. If you do over like a $500 in transactions you'll have to go
Premier, not sure about that figure.

Well, d0e seems to have been answered, so I have a couple of questions for anyone who knows...I've been THINKING about setting up Paypal to be able to PAY for some things (shareware/donationware) where Paypal is the ONLY option.

I've put it off so far because of all the negative "press" Paypal got early on and maybe still and eBay's takeover didn't help at all in inspiring confidence.

1. Can JUST a credit card be used to setup?

2. Any "hidden" dangers/negatives lurking that I won't find on Paypal site?

3. Anything else?

Thanks for any info offered.

1) Yes, from past experience, might have changed.
2) dont know what you mean exactly, but there are scammers out there. Dont follow any paypal links in emails. A lot of them redirect you somewhere else and steal your login and password.

3) Just be cautious. If you only use Paypal for payments, you shouldnt have any problems with only a credit card number attached to your account. They might have changed this. If you do only have a CC attached to your paypal account, paypal will try to get you to link a bank account.

Yes.

How do you plan to retrieve funds? You can get the PayPal debit card, do a bank transfer (need a bank account linked), or request a check (costs $1 per check).

There is a limit to withdrawals before becoming verified (adding a bank account and entering the amounts of 2 small deposits, or using electronic verification via online banking).

If a seller has PayPal as the way to pay for the item, you can pay by credit card directly without setting up a PayPal account yourself. Click on the link to pay for the item and find out for yourself. The seller may not have made this clear when promoting the PayPal payment option.

As a software vendor, I use PayPal for collecting money. I make it clear on my store page that credit cards and PayPal are accepted. PayPal will be handling the financial transaction. PayPal currency is accepted, but no PayPal account is required.

Thanks to those that answered the questions I added in here - and Tominator, I have seen what you described. TL, I don't plan to "withdraw" funds, I don't think; just maybe make a payment now and then.

Tominator, if you return, I wonder if what you describe works on all shareware vendors payments via Paypal links - or just those that have specified in advance as you apparently do and describe.

Thanks again - still not too keen on Paypal, but maybe I will find a way to use it; maybe as Tominator describes.
