Saw my first Tesla Model 3 last week

Didn't think much of it at the time (I knew they were due to be released soon), but I read either yesterday or today that the first Model 3s are due to be released Any Day Now... which means I shouldn't be seeing any on the street yet.

Which got me to thinking:

- I know that Elon Musk was recently gifted with the first Model 3
- I know his Model 3 is the same color as the car I saw
- I know that another of his companies, SpaceX, is based in the South Bay where I work and live

...I may have crossed paths with Elon Musk last week.

It is what it is.

I also saw one like a week ago, in Atlanta, so I think there must have been some other cars released or something. We were driving and I pointed it out to my husband. Maybe it was a demonstrator or something.

Roll out/delivery of the first batch of Model 3s to employees was last night; the 14+ minute video is on YouTube now.

SpaceX is headquartered in Hawthorne, California near L.A.

Did some of the greatness rub off as you drove by?

I saw a prototype Model 3 in L.A. within a few days of the original announcement. Two thoughts; first was that it really wasn't terribly impressive looking, second was that Tesla would probably sell a few shiploads of them because they were so inoffensive looking. After playing cat and mouse w/ it in traffic for a couple of miles, I lost it when the Model 3 made a left turn as the light changed and left me hanging at the intersection. Since we were the cross traffic, the main street had a much longer light, and by the time I was finally able to make my left, the Tesla was long gone, so I gave up the chase and turned right at the next light. Pretty sure Musk wasn't driving the prototype. I think the Model 3 is gonna be the new Prius around here shortly.

If they can extend the battery life some, with the cost of electricity in Seattle, they will be way cheaper over their lifetime than a Prius. And WAY more fun.

It’s a handsome enough car - until you see the front. Then it looks like a vacuum-formed kit car that hasn’t had its grille opening cut out yet. Of course, I prefer the looks of the 2017 Prius over those of my 2014 so what do I know?

It has a few rough edges, aesthetics-wise. That interior display panel is ENTIRELY out of proportion to the rest of the dashboard.

It is what it is.

Naw, if I can get 350-375 miles a charge, I can recharge every night.
