My Gastro said it's probably caused by diabetic neuropathy but didn't give me any medicine. My family doctor had me something that seems more for burning stomach. I don't have the name handy. I've read that erythromycin works somewhat. I have to watch nausea medicines because of problems I've had with serotonin and dopamine, which they sometimes affect. The only store here doesn't have digestive enzymes. I'm wondering about apple cider vinegar and water.

Erythromycin is an antibiotic. Wouldn't take that unless you've confirmed you have a bacterial infection. Otherwise, taking it would be a waste of time. Based on the description of gastroparesis from webmd and other sources, it seems unlikely taking an antibiotic do much good. Wonder if the people who said it works sometimes had infections and not gastroparesis.

That specific one works. It's on Google. I may be even less cogent than usual on this thread. I have about three things going on, got no sleep last night, and feel awful.

doesn't diabetic neuropathy affect your feet and legs well in advance of your digestive muscles ?

erythromycin ? to rule out a possible bacterial infection mimicking the neurropathy symptoms ?

aren't they all pushing diet, diet, diet ??
quite possibly to the point of getting sick and tired of relying solely on diet ?

I've had the neuropathy in my legs for years. I have all sorts of nerve problems all over. The gastroparesis is pretty new. My Gastro has some tests lined up but it will be awhile.

Googled gastroparesis + erythromycin.

You could try some homemade ginger tea. Pretty much all stores sell the roots. Steep a slice for awhile or make a large batch (2c water + 2 inches sliced, peeled ginger, simmer 20 min)

I've taken some ginger capsules but they got moved and I forgot about them.

I stand corrected, though it still seems strange to use an antibiotic to treat it. Constantly hear over use of antibiotics for non-bacterial infections is leading to reduced effectiveness.

From the wikipedia writeup the use is not as an antibiotic, but because erythromycin has a side effect of increasing motility in the digestive tract. The effect is temporary, after a few weeks it loses effectiveness.

I am diabetic for about the last 15 years. Have dealt with stomach issues for years. For the last couple of years I was waking up everyday with mild nausea that would last most of the morning.

Talking with my gp she mentioned that sometimes diabetic neuropathy can affect the nerves in the stomach and intestines. She said it was a long shot. She has had me on a low dose of amitriptyline @ 10 mg before bed time. it has totally stopped the nausea along with most of the other intestinal problems I have dealt with for years. only side affect is a little groggy when I first wake up
My endocrinologist doesn't believe it caused an improvement.
I ran out of it 4 days ago and this morning the nausea was back

I take a low dose of an antidepressant for IBS and it works very well. I worked with a IBS specialist to figure it out. I fear needing to explain it to every new doctor.

Boy! I read this thread and suddenly realized that I am not alone with my health issues. It seems that health is a much more frequent topic, nowadays.

Three hours of sleep! Do you remember the Monty Python "one downsmanship" routine? Three hours of sleep! Shear luxury! I only slept two hours last night...

I'll have to make a list, who gets what of my tech stuff that only my forum buddies would appreciate.

That happened to me over about two years when I turned 41. I at first thought it was due to my crackhead neighbor waking me up at 3 am, then I read that it happens to lots of people and was first noted around the early 1600's.
