Looking for ideas for cheap shelving/storage

Since selling my Quicksilver and buying an iMac, I now have wasted space where the QS used to live. I'd love to find some inexpensive way to use the space that will make the most use of it.

As you can see, it's not particularly easy to access, but if there were shelves along the back and/or a couple of drawers with a shelf or two, at least I could put more stuff in there than if I just toss stuff in the back. Something like a free-standing short and narrow bookshelf might work, but I am limited by its size. Yes, I probably could "make" something, but I'm not what you would call a handyman, either.

Any ideas?

Plastic containers.
Milk crates on their sides.
Learn to cut fairly square pieces of plywood.

I'd go with the learn to cut fairly square pieces of plywood.

Alternatively. If you can figure out how to use a tape measure, figure out what size boards you need and Lowes will cut the boards to the size you want for $1 a cut.

Bins. Dishpans work well if you have enough depth. You can mark the outside with the contents of each one. They move out of the way quickly and easily for when you realize you put something really important in the most inaccessible corner.

Just in case anyone is curious. I picked up a couple of cheapo ($7 ea.) plastic drawers at Wally's. They'll work just fine. Thanks for the ideas.
