I've got a two Airport Extreme system (one as the main and a second to extend the network) and I'm considering replacing the whole shebang at some point in the next 3 to 6 months.

I know the world can change in that time frame, but I was curious if anyone had any of the noted systems above and what their experiences are.

Note that I'm looking specifically at this group -- Mesh systems (even though the Orbi isn't technically a Mesh) -- and not wanting something that looks like a Shadow Battlecrab from Babylon 5.

FWIW, I was considering adding a third Airport Extreme for a bit (to bolster the network's power in a trouble spot) but it's time to move on and Apple is completely out of the game, I imagine. I was kind of hoping that the release of the HomePod would also usher in an updated/revitalized Airport system, but I guess not. Alas.

Yeah, pretty dissapointing they dropped all the wireless.

Two orbis work well for me. I have a long skinny apt about 5000 sq ft. with 1 Gb fios. My note book seams to be internally limited to 400mb/s. My iPhone gets 600.

Now I have to hate you.

(I'm paying through the nose for Comcast Xfinity 85Mbps (max) here, and paying even more for "unlimited". I'd almost consider moving to another state just to have some actual options.)

Seems cool... I dont have a 2800 SF home -- cause dropping $350 for wifi isnt really trippin my trigger.

The stock wifi router we get from Uverse (5GHZ ac) covers our house and backyard no problem. Thankfully its near the center of the house, 5 feet in the air in a room with no doors on one side and sliding door on the other.

Sitting my garage I get a solid 50-55/12-15 MB/s with it. AT&T Internet 50 only $30 a month and locked in for 2 years, unlimited usage. =)

Right?

Mesh is superior to the bridging method of extending a WLAN referenced in the OP's post. Out of all the systems listed, I've only heard of the eero system. Everything I've heard is good.

It is what it is.

Voted for Netgear Orbi. Only con is it is a bit pricier than the rest, but the big win is the 4 Ethernet ports on both the router & each satellite.

I previously posted about the Orbi here:

Here is a link to the building. It is an 04 unit. The lanai adds 1000+ to the 4000 under air.

We purchased a Portal thinking we'd need to do st least 2 via mesh to cover our sprawling house. I used to need to use two power line extenders to give wifi everywhere. Our base wifi was a time capsule (which still works fine but is less than half the signal of the portal).

A single portal covers the entire house including our garage with our Tablo tied to our OTA TV antenna.

It's a small company, but I've been very pleased. A 2-pack is an Amazon Choice at $270. Single unit is $148.

Portal wifi router - Keeps your wifi maxed out at the speed you pay for, Patented technology, Reliable and affordable coverage for homes up to 3,000 sq.ft., Gigabit speed, Easy setup and app. (AC2400) [www.amazon.com]
