Space,

sorry to see it go. But, I'm not surprised. If I remember correctly, Fatwallet was owned by Ebates and seemed to duplicate services. Ebates is still going strong. 'course, ebates is owned by Rakuten. Not sure who else is owned by them and whether or not they duplicate ebates' service.

it is hard to remember the history, but dealmac either predated FW or was a competitor. Wasn't part of the demise of dealmac related to banning any mention of other deal sites like FW, and that led to the eventually breakdown of that forum? Politics also played a role, but I remember that it was baffling to me that the best computer related deal site on internet (dealmac) cared about the deals we discussed on its forums for deals found on other sites.

.....there was a point when other 'deal sites' became....he who can not be named......you couldn't mention other deal sites or link to them.....you had to link to deals directly....

We should all take a moment to thank OWC Larry for providing this place for us even though it isn't profitable and sometimes can be a pain smiling smiley

FWIW, DM started in ... 1994/1995 as a college project ! I would connect to them via dial up with my Mac SE/30. They also worked on the phorum software... it was kind of a simultaneous thing. Deals were posted by phorum folk, and eventually vetted and aggregated by the boys.

I used to use FW a lot. Somehow I transitioned to Slickdeals. I don't know why. A year or so ago I wondered why, and went over to fatwallet. Still stick with slickdeals, for some reason. Some of it is partially because the same PE company owns my work and slickdeals.

Wow!

FW covered about 10-15% of my holiday shopping list.
