If they're affected, they're probably busy or can't respond because there's no power, phones, or internet.

Just got the news that two very close and old friends had their house burn to the ground in Glen Ellen CA..They evacuated after seeing the fire lick over the ridge across the valley..spent the night with friends and hoped for the best..nothing left. Always feels abstract and sort of distant when you read about these things etc..but when it happens to you..or those close..makes you realize how 'real' it is.

I know several people who have been burned out. Ugly situation. It was very fast moving, and it is surprising there are not more casualties. I have a niece who works at the remaining hospital (the other two were evacuated) and she reports lots of injuries and terror. Lots of pre-PTSD.

And it is nowhere near over. Pray the winds don't pick up again.

Everyone is waiting for what happens Wednesday evening overnight into Thursday when the red flag warnings go up again due to the predicted return of the offshore winds of 30mph with gusts to 45mph which is what got all this started Sunday evening into Monday.

We are in a lull today with onshore winds raising the humidity and lower temperatures, but anything can happen when the wind shifts tomorrow and the fires are so widespread that there is little chance of significant containment before tomorrow afternoon.

I used to live in Glen Ellen, sorry to see it burn many happy memories. Currently I was feeling fairly safe thinking about the distances between my current residence from the closest fires, but then I realized that I was thinking in driving miles, not in a straight line. Using GoogleEarth I discovered we are only 20 and 28 miles from two of the big fires in a straight line. We are setting up hoses and making getting ready to pack valuables into car just in case, not likely it will make it to our locale but can't hurt to be prepared.

Just saw on the news a story of a couple, 100 and 98 yo, that died in their home. They had just celebrated their 75th anniversary...

I’m right in the middle of it. Been evacuated since early Monday morning. My house in Larkfield appears to have been spared but we’re not in the clear yet. My mom, who lives in Kenwood, doesn’t know the status of her place and there’s no way to even get there to find out. The fires are still out of control for the most part, and the smoke is so thick that Calfire hasn’t been able to use their air support. It’s a nightmare. The devastation is on such a massive scale that it’s hard to even comprehend. This is going to take years to recover from, and I’m afraid for some folks, it’ll be completely life changing. Send good thoughts our way.

That is really scary. I hope all of you stay safe and suffer as little damage as possible.

Be well, all of you. Friends from Santa Rosa are evacuated and staying with family further south... It's pretty scary - we were just there visiting!
