What things will not exist in 20 years?

Brutal line from The Simpsons episode that made me laugh/cry at the same time. I have predicted that still photography as we know it will someday cease as we know it and cameras will be video that still grabs are procured from.

Bart: What do you do?
Phoebe: I am a wildlife photographer.
Bart: Wow, two things that won't exist in twenty years!

"tick-tock" - in twenty years, kids will ask what it means and you'll have to take 10 minutes explaining it... but the sound itself will be soon be completely gone.

LOTS OF SERVICE JOBS

I suspect that Starbux will be almost completely automated in 20 years and LOTS and LOTS of other jobs will be GONE.

price is worried about automatic photography - devices that capture EVERYTHING. It would only require one photo editor to do the job of a team of photogs. For example, one guy at Sports Illustrated could do photo essays of every game on any sunday in real time while sipping his mai-tai on a beach in the south pacific. Every stadium will have this 'device' built in - no need for any photogs.

Truck drivers. Except for the kind that sit behind a few displays and move trucks by joy-stick, 10 at a time.

Pilots. See: truck drivers.

One step at a time, still photographers will be less and less as automation takes over.

A Dutch company called StyleShoots has created machines that can cut fashion shooters out of the picture altogether. The new StyleShoots Live machine lets a stylist and model capture video and stills on their own, without a photographer. This super-charged photo booth lets anyone control lights, backgrounds, camera motion, editing, and other creative aspects of a simple setup through a built-in iPad, then export finished files in a wide variety of formats—even 4K video or high-resolution stills.

The StyleShoots Live incorporates a Canon EOS-1D X Mark II with a Canon EF 24–105mm f/3.5–5.6 IS STM lens, along with 12 high-CRI LED panels custom made by Rotolight and even a reflector with a white side for bounce and a black side for shadow. A 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro serves as the control panel, while an embedded Mac Pro processes all of the data using proprietary software. It's rather an ingenious contraption, as the launch video from the company demonstrates.

And I disagree about B&M colleges - time and again most students have rejected online learning at all levels. They do it only when forced, not by choice.

Customer service exists today, and will exist in 20 years. But the monetary threshold will have risen. That is to say, you can walk into Macy's and rummage through the shirts. Or, you can walk into Brooks Brothers and have someone measure you and take you to the appropriate selection.

Similarly, if you call up (say) Fidelity, the phone system knows which class of customer you are and will route you to the appropriate queue (or answer directly if you warrant it).

If minimum wage keeps going up, then unskilled workers are going to find themselves replaced by machines. Ordering Kiosks, assembly devices for food, AI doing drive through orders etc. A McDonalds will have a single manager on staff to make sure things keep running and that is it.

There will be more salaried workers because 1. They work more hours. 2. Those are the decision makers and people responsible.

Yeah, I’ve heard more than a few educated guesses that water might be the next oil. I can see a not too distant day when water is not the ubiquitous, virtually free (in first world countries) commodity it is today.

In home or neighborhood/apartment complex wastewater recycling, fresh water as a premium/luxury product, maybe even as extreme as part of whatever pay you get being in the form of fresh water credits.

Beyond that, paper based media virtually gone. Though both the printing industry and 2D images will hang on as packaging, if nothing else, will still demand their use. Though add another 50 to 75 years and maybe we’ll see embedded tech in consumers that overlays images on blank packaging using augmented reality. Consider chip based packaging that uses cookies and profiles on your embedded device to tailor packaging (and pricing?) on the fly to suit the each consumer.

Or maybe it will be digital ink that will let companies roll out new packaging via a ‘reboot’ sent to retailers’ networks. Maybe we’ll see a quantum leap and finally make a jump to replicators or 3D printers, will and packaging — along with the attached waste and expense — becomes a thing of the past.

Fewer salaried equals more contractors - think Uber-style employment where most workers are replaceable (the working platform means workers compete for the available jobs).

What else will be gone? The Middle Class.

I do not want this to happen, but it is the most likely scenario unless there is a major economic change.

You’re missing the market opportunity for things like water purification tablets that will let you drink water from the tap and only get a little sick. Or maybe we should all be investing in the companies that make Breva and P?r water filters now, and get in on it the before the boom.
