Responding to criticism about the placement of cheese on Google's version of the cheeseburger emoji, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that he would take a look at the issue immediately.

"Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday smiling smiley if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!" Pichai tweeted.

How did that even happen? EVERYONE knows you put the cheese on top of the patty. Sheesh!

LOL...
I think MOST people agree that it goes ABOVE the patty... Maybe next to the patty, maybe next to the bun... but definitely ABOVE the patty, not below.

Paul,

Most people are the operative words. ‘Course, people can assemble a cheeseburger however they want and it isn’t going to change anything. Bun. Patty. Cheese. Cheeseburger. Mix the cheese into the patty. Still a cheeseburger. Not traditional mind you but still a cheeseburger.

Much in the same way, a pizza is typically dough. Sauce on dough. Cheese on sauce. But, that’s isn’t how some places make a pie. Some of best pizza i’ve ever tasted was made differently. The order was dough. Cheese. Sauce. I was skeptical but it was amazing.

Well, being on the lazy side and wanting the burger to partially melt the cheese, I plop the cheese on a bun, carry it to my grill, remove the top of the bun and put the cooked burger (always ground chuck) on top of the cheese. The lazy part is that it would be slightly more effort to also remove and replace the cheese to go on top of the meat. In addition, with the slippery cheese under the burger, the tomato has a better chance of staying in place on the meat.

I melt the cheese on the bottom bun for 11 seconds in the microwave.
Ends up looking like the google burger, but with an onion slice also.

Cheese goes on top, if you put it on the bottom it would melt out from under the patty while on the grill. Never knew anyone who waited to put cold cheese on while assembling the burger on its bun, always cooked it on top of the patty on the grill for the last couple minutes.

You people need to live a little. In the bigstuff household cheeses go on the top AND bottom of the burgers! Yes, you read that correctly, don't adjust your television sets, it can be double-cheesed!

And we only use cheddar, btw. Pro tip.

I rarely have cheese with my burger. I find it overpowers the flavor.
