african safari-trip insurance?

we have been putting together our african safari.

between airfare, accommodations and the actual safari in country, the trip for four adults is a bit pricey.

we are thinking trip insurance.

cancellations, delays, weather (we are going from mid-december 2017 to end of december 2017.

and how does health insurance work into trip insurance?

we have our own health plans but overseas medical issues could be daunting.

who has real world experience about buying (and potentially needing to use!) trip insurance?

thanks in advance.

be well.

rob

I buy an annual policy from Alliance (slightly more than single trip insurance), but here is the go to for travel insurance. Generally, you select and pay for what degree of coverage you want.
Luckily, I’ve never had to use it.

You're wise to recognize the usefulness of travel insurance. A few years back, a friend told me how he & his family had been delayed in Europe following a terrorist incident. The travel insurance he had completely covered the considerable extra expense when flights were canceled. It took days for flights to be rescheduled. Without travel insurance, the extra cost would have been his responsibility.

Absolutely get trip insurance for a major trip like this. With so many elements, it’s prudent.

Check with your credit company, the one you used to purchase the trip, what will their travel.
The medical stuff is totally separate, check with your insurance agent what has he available that would cover you.
My medical plan theoretically covers me overseas, but the several times I was in accident and ended up in a hospital it never came up. That might not be the case where you are going.
Travel agents of the past had medical insurance available, I do not know if they still do.
My trips are simple and flexible, so I do not really need trip insurance, yours is anything but, you are a prime candidate....

Your in-country medical care will probably be cheap. Evacuating will not be.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.
