Random Question #4

I just bought something on ebay for which the seller is making you go through their website to do checkout rather than allowing you to directly pay via Paypal. Is this kosher?

I've seen this a couple of times and it appears to be legit depending on the seller of course.

It sounds a tad fishy to me. As you know I buy and sell a lot of eBay and I don't see where this is
an advantage except for the seller. If it is a legit business you should be ok. Check to see if
he/she is signed up with VeriSign. How's their feedback?

Feedback is fine. (In fact, they have over 150,000 feedbacks!) I just went through their checkout process, and gave them the minimum information (no more than they'd get through Paypal)... seems OK, though I do notice a few fishy things:

1) They're offering $10 for every person you tell about their online store

2) In their thank you/acknowledgment email, they say: "Thank you for your purchase and for your support of our charitable programs." ... I hope I am not supporting some sort of agenda...

Hmmmm... here is their website, seems legit enough: [www.shopgco.com]

... the women here might find this interesting...

I've done that a few times, but not before checking feedback.

No idea why you think this is fishy. Personally, I'd trust paypal much less.
Hope you won a tinfoil hat . . .

h', because directing you to a private website from ebay IS fishy, that's why.

I do hate paypal, but something about paying through an unfamiliar website is still a bit unsettling.

The evil that you know vs. the unknown.

At least with paypal, you know what kind of service to expect.
