1.83ghz Mac Mini memory issues - final update

From this [forums.macresource.com] post

Thanks JoeH! - clock battery was the culprit. So far it's recognizing both 2gb memory modules (although it only utilizes 3gb according to Activity Viewer). Is it possible to force this mini to boot into 64bit mode and actually utilize all 4gb? The bottom of this site [apple.stackexchange.com] shows how to set it to do so in Terminal.

Edit: Nevermind - after reading that post in more detail, it seems this mini's architecture most likely won't allow it. I did try holding down 6-4 when I restarted it, but Activity Monitor shows kernel at x86. Oh well...

Yeah - it's a 64 bit cpu, but the 950 is a 32 bit card. Macpostfactor could upgrade you to 10.8, if you're into that sort of thing.

Yes! Definitely going to try Macpostfactor

So, I trashed my Bootcamp 64 bit Win 7 installation when I was initially troubleshooting this mini - if I reinstall it, I assume the Windows side would only utilize 3gb of the 4gb installed, as well?

Nope. That is a 32bit chipset - Napa or Calistoga. These can not remap the addresses of some of the hardware so OS support (Mac or Windows) is limited to 3.2GB.
