my 20yo or more, metal filing cabinet has a couple bum wheels on the slide that is making closing a pita. Far right top pic and bottom wheel in the middle of the same pic.

but thus far, can't find them anywhere. Anyone have any ideas or sources?
Prolly cheapos, Hon type, but not Hon and certainly not SteelCase.

Are yours even removable? Most run of the mill file cabinets have stamped in wheels, because manufacturers think they last forever.

quite removable and replaceable wheels. the rails themselves are oddball.
gonna see if my local metal shop guy can change the wheels.

Fritz, unless you're attached to that particular file cabinet, it might be time to find another. Seems like a lot of large institutions, like gov't offices and schools—esp. univerities—are getting rid of paper-related furniture and equipment by the ton. I see Steelcase 4-drawer FCs at our college salvage sale for $30, and they're all over the used office furniture stores. Maybe there's a community college or univ near you that sells their surplus.

Those tips to find hand-me-downs are good, and not sure how the old slides are connected, but it may well be easier to replace the whole slide rather than just some parts. Though good find w/ that Canadian company. Trouble is, new slides may approach replacement cost of decent used file cabinets, some tough choices fer ya.

A couple of years ago we were lucky enough to sell about $5,000 worth of office stuff (desk, chair, filing cabs) for $450 and had to give away that much more, and then some, because we couldn't sell it quickly... there are some deals out there to be had.

Did you look up the manufacturer and see if they will sell you slides, is that what your comment about not being able to find them anywhere is about?

Slides are very fiddly, lots of cheap file cabinet manufacturers that all make them slightly different to save 10 cents per unit, so there aren't a few universal slides. You might want to wait until something you like goes on sale and get a new one.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

gave 'em a silicon lube spray. see how that goes. Don't think I want to be bothered with changing the wheels on the slides.
Dunno and can't find a manufacturer.
otherwise, the local metal shop guy or find some used, preferably better than these, though the did last a long time.
