Its a conspiracy, I tell ya!

So I've been having trouble with messages on my computers. The one at work, and two at home are all running Sierra. The rub is that I cannot log on to Messages due to an error.

[forums.macresource.com]

Well, I finally got to tinker on the computer at home for about 5 minutes. I opened messages and I was not signed in. I went to preferences and signed in. Bingo! I am up and running! The account is running normally.

For about 3 seconds.

Then I get a message that there was trouble signing in. The account is now signed out and I cannot sign back in. What???!! It was there! It was normal! It was working! What are you talking about!!!!!

@#$%&*R%. It's because I'm running Sierra. I just know it! It's a conspiracy to make me move to High Sierra, which I don't wanna do! I'm really beginning to hate our Apple overlord.

Except for the iPhone X. I really like that...

I don’t think it’s Sierra.

I too had longstanding issues with Messages refusing to sign in or stay signed in, despite iCloud signing in properly. Every once in a while it would magically work again, but then just as unmagically stop working. The solution for me was to log out of iCloud, then log into Messages, then log back into iCloud. I have no idea why but that sequence seems to have done the trick.

Otherwise I had tried every trick I could think of and read on every solution thread found on the net including logging in and out of iCloud, validating and changing AppleID password, restarting, resetting keychain and prefs and various other files, updating the OS from Mavericks to Sierra to HS, etc.

If you haven't tried yet, maybe see if logging out of iCloud then into Messages then back into iCloud will stabilize things for you.

Try logging out from the App Store app and from the iTunes store (two separate actions in two separate apps) and then rebooting.

I run Sierra and have never encountered this problem.

It is what it is.

Tried TL's suggestion. No dice. I will try Onamuji's suggestion when I get home. Can't waste any more time on this at work....

My wife posts twice. She is two people?
Phone
.mac
.me
.cloud
I don't know.
no time to really get in to it.

She post from phone but can't post from iMac on select conversations.
Last time she tried to fix it she got locked out of iTunes for a month.
