What are some words to describe a person who rides horses?

I'm working on an ad, in which someone mentions that they participate in the sport of barrel racing. And we see a horse on screen.


I'm trying to find out some really clear way to say this person enjoys horses, in the form of a noun. "I'm a _____. "
But it has to make sense to the general public, even the dumb ones...


I'm an equestrian. (too complicated for some people)
I'm a barrel racer. (too obscure for some people)

Any other ideas?

One that's already been nixed for sure is,
"I'm a horse lover." ...you can imagine why.

"I'm a rider." or "I love riding."

Leaves it a bit open to interpretation, but with the picture, even the clueless should be able to figure it out. :-)

If "barrel racer" (most accurate) or "equestrian" (more general, but sufficiently descriptive) is too complicated for your readers to grasp, you need to find different readers. Seriously.

If the spot is about barrel racing, I would go with "barrel racer" and show barrel racing on screen.

barrel racer could imply a souped-up barrel, maybe powered with a riding lawnmower device.

Barrel racing is a very specific equestrian event. Those who are into the scene know this; those who are not, may not. If stephen's spot is targeted toward the former group, there should be no issue; if it isn't, I wonder why not.

Rider is best for general audience, with a picture of the horse.

Got to agree with wurm, "I am a RIDER". There's a feeling a feeling of passion and pride in just keeping short. The picture (photo or illo will guide the viewer as to what they ride - horse or Harley).
