Citibank fraud alert?
Posted by: Blankity Blank

Anybody receive, or hear any chatter about, a text message warning of a Citibank data breach? First popped up for me just past midnight PT this morning, 02/22/18.

Trying to reach Citi through what should be a safe, official number, but apparently they are getting hit with a lot of phone traffic.

Without going into detail, there are aspects that feel legit, but the timing and method of contact are suspect.

Thanks.

I've heard nothing as of 7:30 this morning.

Why I needed a post about to remind me of Buddy...

I haven’t either. I did get a Paypal phishing email yesterday. It was obviously not legit.

It’s highly doubtful citi would contact u by text. Scam.

So not a scam, but seems like a really "scammy" way to contact members?

Sorted.

Text was legit. Managed to hook up with Citibank fraud, they confirmed that a handful of bogus transactions were attempted — small transactions to test the account — then multiple attempts to run a larger transaction.

For five figures.

Citi said it was one of the weirder attempts they’d seen. Getting a new card expidited to me.

Thanks for the input everybody.

I like Capitol One because the app notifies me of every single charge!

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Citi will too if you manage your settings correctly.

I got a text alert for a transaction while out of town using my citi card, they noticed a weird transaction and flagged it and blocked it. They texted me to respond with a Y if it was me. Got that cleared up quickly.
