will a clone of a G5 drive work ok to run a G4?

I'm wondering about this because of the g5 firmware that is present.

Will a g4 disregard this, is it important or moot?

If it is an issue, can the g5 firmware be removed or does the firmware reside somewhere in the actual G5 and not on the hard drive?

Thanks

FirmWare is in the G5, not on the hard drive.

FWIW, I ran my s/o's G3 500 iMac off a FW external drive with a clone of my G5.

Worked great.

As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

OSX is agnostic; once it is installed. Of course Apple will tie the installer disk to the hardware initially so you don't go and pirate it everywhere. That is the only reason.

I've run laptop G4 1.67Mhz systems on my digital audio and visa versa. They seem just fine. Apple loaded the system with just about every hardware contingency so, on boot-up the particular machine will use only the components that it needs.
