Kids complain that games have no sound. We rebooted, I checked volume, etc. I will try again, but maybe you guys have a solution. YouTube sound works fine, so hardware is OK. It must be a setting somewhere that I am overlooking.

Not sure if it applies, but I've noticed that when I bring up a game that I want to mute, there are two sound settings - one for sound effects and then a standard volume. If I try to mute before the game begins, I get the sound effects volume. If I try after the game boots, I get standard volume.

Also be sure the volume control on the side isn't set for screen rotation instead of sound.

Thanks. It was not the Volume Control, but the "Side Switch". somehow that was set to Mute instead of Lock Rotation, and it was muting only games. Youtube and Facetime worked fine. I kept looking for a Sound setting instead of looking into General settings.

Solved.

But maybe Speedy was right. I did NOT tell the kids how I solved it. If it becomes a problem, I mute it again.

Indeed. I have found that some apps have the ability to override the side switch mute setting.
