Any Steve Jackson fans in the forum?

I got in on his Ogre Designer's Edition kickstarter.

Was hoping he'd find a way to do Wizard or Melee, but he one-upped it and he's got a kickstarter going for the entire "Fantasy Trip" set.

As a kid, I was very impressed with these games. They were immersive without overwhelming the player with rules. Metagaming made character-building between quests into a game in and of itself with combat and jobs to earn experience and develop your skills. The two simple combat games (Wizard/Melee) were great ways to blow an evening, but also served to introduce the character and combat systems for the larger game (In The Labrinth).

I played Ogre a few times. Enjoyed it enough. Got a couple of the expansion packs. I've always had a hard time finding people to play with... Just looking at kind of fellows hanging out in the gaming shops/sections.

Veteran Ogre/GEV player here... though I haven’t played in decades now.
Never got into much else of SJ games, but that was mostly lack of others to play with, whereas I knew several other folks with Ogre/GEV sets.

When my friends and I weren’t playing D&D we were playing Car Wars.

Played Ogre and GEV when they first came out, some of the other games he has done since then. Fantasy Trip did not catch on in the circle of friends and acquaintances I gamed with then for about 15 years. Car Wars was fun, but was not played often.
