I admit that I am somewhat overwhelmed by technology. Gym + Apps + iPhone + Apple Watch + more apps and I am lost

I have an iPhone SE and Apple Watch Series 3. so far so good. before I got the watch, I believe that iPhone used to keep track of some of my movement (steps, etc) but it did not have a heart rate monitor of couse.

Then I got the watch, It seems iPhone uses Apple Watch data, which should be more accurate. It also keep track of heart rate. Make senses.

now I signed up for a nicer gym (https://www.lifetime.life/) that has it's own App to check in/check out and keep track of workouts. I did not use the workout feature.

Then I noticed that some machines (https://www.technogym.com/us/) have QR codes and NFC symbols. So I downloaded their App. Acept some terms and conditions (yes, I tried to read those but eventually I skipped and accepted...) So they see that I am at a lifetime gym and somehow share data with that App... so now when I use one machine, nothing happens, despite the QR code and NFC reader. But when I use an "elliptical", it prompts me to log in with a device and if I hold the Apple Watch, it recognized my name. It keeps track of heart rate from the watch apparently, since if I take my hands off the sensors, it no longer complains. So tonight I tried the same again, it did connect to Apple Watch but it didn't show my name on the machine like last time, it asked me to log in. Why? I didn't have to do that last time.

To be honest, I am not quite sure which App/device sends data to which App/device. for example the number of calories may come from the machine and show up on the watch? the Heart Rate goes from the watch to the machine? Why are some machines working and some not?

There are a few more brands of machines at the gym and those probably require a different App.

EDIT: one machine that I just used this evening is $15k. Wow...

I’ve been using Macintosh computers since the 80’s and I have so much accumulated software it’s difficult for me to remember what is for what sometimes. Throw in IOS as an entirely new platform and I’m just treading water most of the time. Either it’s getting more complicated or I’m getting old. Either way I do get frustrated trying to keep it all straight.

Just make sure you break a sweat, that's all that counts at the end of the day!

And I recall in spring
The perfume that the air would bring
To the indolent town
Where the barkers call the moon down

.....I get lost in your eyes
And I feel my spirits rise
And soar like the wind...
Is it love that I am in..........??

Both. Me too. But I'm glad I don't have to spend time with Conflict Catcher for Extensions any more.

This is why I put on a pair of running shoes, step out the door and time myself with my 20-year-old Timex watch.

Yeah, that reference got me to chuckle out loud smiling smiley

I always remember the *4 minutes* it took to load Word 6. I remember silently weeping at one point in front of my IIci out of sheer frustration.

LOL!

I step outside every day with my 'Phone and Watch. I don't run, or I'd leave the 'Phone home. Close my rings and the rest of the day is mine.

I've been thinking about joining a gym though.

Rain and heat make me lazy.

I totally relate, RAMd. Took me years to finally check out the gym scene, and I'm so glad I did. I've been to a few memberships, paid lots, and finally settled on LA Fitness, which are big in my new home here in Florida. And damn, what great prices: for both myself and my wife, it's $52/month. Very clean, and great benefits. There's no towel service, like my former $174/month gym, but worth bringing my own gear. I set up a 40-minute favorite jams songs on my iPhone, got an arm band holder and a behind-the-ears bluetooth headset, and just rock out and sweat. Have fun. Good luck, they can be a lot of fun and inspiration.
