I kind of love this whole weird story. And I'm curious about what happened to the vendor and his dogs. Did the health inspector make him dump them? Or, did he go on selling after the bees were vacuumed up?

I am impressed there are bee hives in NYC. I am impressed they found a beekeeper in NYC. I am impressed that cbelt3 didn't show up with his Trigger light Butane torch and Spray can of carburetor cleaner.

Since it was a beekeeper (it seems) that removed them, I'd imagine they're none the worse for wear. And certainly relocated.

Probably because of the colors on that umbrella, they are attracted to colors.

That really shouldn't be a surprise. NYC has thousands of acres of designated greenspace and millions of people. Bees are gonna happen and bees are gonna hafta get moved.

Obviously, I don't know beekeeping, but why not a 1-3 foot wand on the end of that hose? Just sayin'.

The bees have been safely relocated and are being fed sugar water while they rest up and get comfortable, according to NY1:

Mays keeps a hive on top of his precinct - the 104 in Long Island City - which means his fellow officers there are swimming in honey. Lauriano brought the bees he vacuumed from Times Square to his hives at home. He says they are adjusting bee-autifully.

"Fantastic. I checked on them, they’re settling in, I’m feeding them sugar water so they don’t have to go out immediately and start finding nutrition and they’re drinking it down," Mays added.

He’s hoping by next summer, officers at his precinct will be able to enjoy Times Square Swarm Honey with their toast.

I was wondering that too.

Not so much for safety's sake as he's obviously comfortable with them, but for a little more reach. Maybe that's never been an issue before.

I'm curious about a lot of this. What about the bees that didn't get vacuumed? Will they have to find another hive? Will they seek out their hive? Where did they come from? Will somebody show up and say 'Those are MY bees!'? Are they free range bees? Is Mays a cop with the NYPD, or a non-sworn employee?

Seriously. I'm scared of them. Seriously scared.

With that many bees, allergies would be the last of my worries.

I've always had a reaction to bee stings and mosquito bites, but no full on anaphylaxis.
