APFS Format and a "regular" hard drive?
Posted by: WHiiP

Spouse has a 2017 MacBook Air that came formatted with High Sierra and the APFS formatted SSD. 8 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD.

Previously an external hard drive was her Time Machine Back-up. Drive was formatted with Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

The new MacBook Air does not recognize this drive. Is it because of the different formats? Will I need to reformat one of the drives for compatibility?

TIA

The Air should be able to read and write from all HFS drives (well, the ones that are physically attached), so that's not the issue. Can you see the drive in Disk Utility?

Finder Preferences are checked!

Cannot see the Drive in Disk Utility!

I will move the drive to my iMac tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions. No joy yet!
