iPhone two-factor authorization

My iPhone has been bugging me for a month now to finish setting up Two-Factor Authorization, and I can't find any way to avoid it. Apparently you can no longer decline. Maybe I have nothing to worry about, but my mobile number is a Google Voice number that, in turn, rings a FreedomPop virtual number, and sometimes that's unacceptable for such protocols. Second, I sometimes travel in countries where I don't have any phone service, and might want to do something that would invoke 2FA while I can't get a text, much less a phone call.

Ideas?

They make it look like you have to turn it on, but as I recall, after you proceed with the first step and before entering a phone number for it, there's a tiny little link or button where you can opt not to do it and this will prevent the reminders from popping up in the future.

Once you opt in you can’t opt out anymore . Friend learned that the other day.

As I understand it, after October 15 of this year, Apple no longer gives you any choice in the matter.

My understanding is that you can postpone turning it on indefinitely, but once it's on you may not be able to disable it anymore.

I can confirm that you can no longer disable it. I found some older instructions on how to disable it, and those options are no longer available.

How?

Ignore alerts.

Or as I wrote previously, start the process and then back out before entering a phone number. I just did so recently for a computer that was hounding a user to enable two-factor authentication. The user was in a similar situation with unreliable VOIP and a cell phone that was more often left powered down in a drawer than powered up. No more alerts on his computer.

If you do turn on two-factor authentication, make sure to add a second phone number, even if the number belongs to a friend or family member. You don't want to get screwed if a device gets broken or lost.

I still don’t have two factor authentication (FIL,wife don’t either) all on 12.0.1 or later.
I tried to disable recently for a friend and that’s how we found out it want an option anymore. The funny part is that it sends you a code on the phone that you are using to get access to use the phone. It’s weird but it works.
