flock of seagulls?!.....'The Orville' has become even more of a 'Star Trek' franchise clone & *spoilers*.....

.....what the flock......a cast member leaves the show so early in Season 2.......??

.....less jokes and they are recycling more 'Star Trek' actors........this episode had 2 (or was it 3)..........

......the rumor is scheduling conflicts as that actor is doing other project.....another rumor is that they will replace her with another character from the same planet.....

When Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) left the cast, TNG got way better immediately.

Not sure Orville is better off after this loss. She'd better have a really good replacement.

I really enjoyed th first season although there was too many immature jokes. I’ll have to start watching season 2 soon. Looking forward to it.

It’s still sorta the same... but seems toned down.

Small spoiler:

First episode kinda tried to deal with more emotional crisis— but still managed to throw in an alien that looks like a walking penis who’s species are experts in porn

I read that she is filming a movie. Maybe they gave her time away to make the movie and maybe not. Apparently she’s dating Seth so she can always come back.

at least she wasn't killed by a puddle of crude oil

all in all, I'm enjoying Orville. I can live without the penis jokes, but Seth runs from down there to fairly high up in the humor department. The SFX are good, and there's usually some good SF as well.

YMMV

When I saw Venom for the first time in the original Spiderman 3 (I never read Spiderman comics as a kid), I was reminded of that scene.

My guess is that's a satirical jab at the occasional ridiculous and one-dimensional alien species the Star Trek writers would sometimes throw at us, especially if they had a social-consciousness-raising point to make in the episode.

Agreed on all points. I just wish they'd either get a better looking ship or, since the show is named after the ship they've got, go in for some kind of upgrade that changes it's looks because the Orville is butt-ugly. Seriously, what was the design inspiration, a bunch of bangle bracelets stacked haphazardly on a dressing table?

I'm not saying we need to go back to the interstellar phallii of the early Buck Rogers & Flash Gordon serials, but come on, can't we at least have something that people will want to have a model of on their shelf? The original Enterprise looked weird and like nothing we'd ever seen before, yet it clearly conveyed a sense of motion and purpose. The Eagle craft of Space 1999 were clunky beyond belief, but there's no need for sleekness in a zero-atmosphere environment and their modular design would have saved money in the real world as it did in the FX budget.

The way to do a proper toilet seat inspired design was shown by the NSEA Protector in Galaxy Quest-

I was thinking the same thing. I hope that Alara doesn't come back as her own daughter in 5 years...

All I ever really needed to know, I learned from watching Star Trek.

You're brilliant.

It could be awesome if they brought her back briefly in a time-paradox episode and then re-introduced her as the bad guy. Oh, man! Put the new character in a relationship with Isaac!!

The whole thing with Tasha Yar from beginning to end was a mess fundamentally because she wasn't a very good actress and few viewers liked her. On top of that, her back-story was kind of depressing and the most notable thing she did on the show was molest an android.

Do the same thing as a "tribute" using the lovable Halston Sage and fans will go nuts!
