Don't think we've had a film in our town, but Cold Turkey was shot 20 minutes away in Greenfield, The Crazies was partially filmed 15 minutes away in Lenox, and Bridges of Madison County did some shooting 30 minutes from here in Winterset (where the actual bridges are).

I like seeing stuff shot in NYC. A bar in my neighborhood, at the corner of 7th St. and Ave. B, has appeared in several TV shows (incl. Law & Order) as well as Crocodile Dundee (IIRC the latter had a scene with a couple of hookers hanging around outside the bar, LOL). An episode of NYPD Blue had a few scenes shot on my block. They put washable graffiti on our buildings. I was at work, so didn’t get to see Sipowicz and Simone walking east on my block. Exterior shots of the “15th Precinct” used the 9th Precinct building on East 5th Street. Also in my ‘hood: Tompkins Square Park has been used by several shows. Taxi Driver used a couple of neighborhood locations, such as the porn theater and nearby mission on 3rd Ave. just below 14th. Blue Bloods uses many locations that I am familiar with. Like Person of Interest and the new FBI series, they like the iconic views from Long Island City.
A couple of years ago I forced myself to watch A Thousand Clowns for the sake of the NYC locations. That movie has not aged well.

I've watched older films just to see the streetscape, and the fashions, of the people, but also the cars, furniture, design, etc. I should perhaps start another thread, but suggestions for films from the 60s, for example, would be appreciated.

I lived in Mansfield, OH when they shot Shawshank. Even had a short gig as a street scene extra (never got on the screen). It was a fascinating time. We cleaned the building where the Warden’s office interior was.. all original woodwork.

Madison, WI. Mostly just some documentaries ("The War At Home" is a chilling look at the anti-war protests and police brutality of the late 60's/early 70s).
But they did shoot the modern non-classic "Back To School" with Rodney Dangerfield here. We got to catch glimpses of Rodney, Sam Kinison (speaking quietly!) and my favorite, Paxton Whitehead (who forty years ago was in Beyond The Fringe, the comedy troupe that inspired Monty Python).
The most interesting thing (not the script, it ain't Orson Welles)... the fact that they'd shot during our dramatic fall foliage, but then had to do reshoots. Before CGI.
They sent a crew back to Madison with buckets of orange and red paint, to fix the now-brown leaves. One by one...

Exactly, I worked across the street from Bloomingdales, on 3rd Ave and lived half a block from Maxwells Plum on 64th and first, a block from Gregory's. All of that was in one movie or another if filmed in NYC from that era.Quote
