one caveat, this model does not appear to have a power port.
There are SSDs that require more juice than USB-3 supplies.

I just got this little Sabrent enclosure for M.2 SSDs. Seems to work well:

I have that adapter and it's worked perfectly with every SSD I've used, from an older OWC Electra 3G and Kingston V300s to the newest Samsung 860 EVO. I've never run into an SSD which needed more power than the USB3 port can provide. And I've used 4 different adapters as well as around 12 different SSDs.

I've never run into an SSD which needed more power than the USB3 port can provide.

Just reporting info I read in reviews & on line spec. sheets...

USB 3.0 is spec'd. 5 volts nominal @ 900 mA (4.5 W).
There are SSDs that draw as much as 1400mA (7.0 W), the 850EVO is one of them.

Could a > 4.5W SSD work on USB 3 power? Yes it might work or not.
Is there a risk of damaging the USB bus or the SSD? That is a possibility too.
Just saying folks should have this info beforehand.

Glad you've had success in your use of the device.

Maybe you're thinking of the 840 EVO? That takes a bit more than 4W. In these charts the 850 EVO takes about 2.6W which is about average for the segment:

even though USB3 is spec'd at 4.5W, they can deliver more power.

from the same link:

"USB 3.0 ports may implement other USB specifications for increased power, including the USB Battery Charging Specification for up to 1.5 A or 7.5 W, or, in the case of USB 3.1, the USB Power Delivery Specification for charging the host device up to 100 W"
