where is the # of items in a folder...?

I am back in Mac OS (10.13), having just come from about 5 years under Win Pro7, and for the life of me, i cannot find how to have the finder tell me how many items are in a given folder. I got so used to using this in Windows, and i can't believe that this is not an option in the finder somewhere. is it? it's driving me nuts, because I juggle lots of files from folder to folder and i rely on being able to know how many are there at a quick glance.

Hurts like a bastid...

At the bottom of the open folder window is where I see it. Didn’t know it was an option

Found it. In the Finder, the View menu/Show Status Bar

Or, to see # of items in folders on the DT, View/Show View Options/Show Item Info. Learn stuff all the time on this forum!

View/Show View Options/Show Item Info

This shows the number of items in each folder on the desktop.

Going from a few decades of MacOS 1-9 to OS X took a long time to re-train my fingers when Cmd-N changed from "New Folder" to "New Finder Window". I used to just type Cmd-N and start typing the name for the new folder.

Now it's Cmd-Shift-N, but my fingers have never been trained to do that.

And at some point TextWrangler/BBEdit changed Cmd-H from "find selection" to "Hide Application", that's a real shocker the first time you encounter it. They do have a way to map it back.
