Title bar says it. I'm running out a 2 year contract. The ONLY advantage was the Nextel unlimited incoming minutes deal.

I run upwards of 5-6,000 incoming minutes /mo. So it saves me money but not really becuse the reception (in a lot of Valley areas) just absolutly sucks. I should mention that I also use T-Mobile and the reception is good. The rates aren't.

So I'm running suckky Nextel @ $ 75/mo for bad service on incoming.

Never mind I just worked it through. I'll upgrade to a $ 200/mo plan, port my number and stop trying to do it on the cheap.

Question?????

How do I avoid contracting into a plan with lousy reception? Any of them have a grace period that means anything and what level of service should I expect at $200/mo??

If you mean "the Valley" as in "fer shure!", I have been using Verizon in the Valley and LA area for the last 4 years and have been pleased with the service. In all that time maybe 5 dropped calls. I work for a production company that uses NEXTEL, and it seems whenever we are on location, mine is the only phone that works. Boss is getting tired of forking over $1,000/mo reimbursement checks because mine is the only phone that works!

If you decide to switch over, I'd call them (Verizon) and see if they won't work some kind of business account deal to get you where you want to be cost wise.

But as far as the service is concerned - I have been pleased. Of course, results may vary.

Sprint also has free incoming plans. And you get 30 days to bail out if you don't like it.

Actually, Sprint and Nextel are the same company now. You can switch between them without breaking your contract so you wouldn't need to wait, although the 30 day guarantee might not apply unless you were starting fresh (I don't really know).

However, they don't use the same towers--or even the same frequency--so the reception won't be the same. I have no idea whether Sprint service is any good where you are.

Yep, both NexTel, and Sprint drop signal constantly.
Used to have Sprint, hated it, great signal strength, dropped signals all the time, even at full signal strength.
My plumber has NexTel, can't keep a call longer than 30-40 seconds while in the SFV.
