Need new set of tires

I’m looking for a set of good all-season tires for my daughters 2011 Camry in a snowy area. What price range should she expect to pay? Obviously it’s an old car so we don’t want to break the bank, but it is running good. Any ideas on prices and where to have them put on. She doesn’t have a Costco membership

I'm a big fan of Discount Tire stores. You can start by looking on their website.

I like Tire Rack's Buyer Guides and user reviews for choosing which tire to buy. I've had local places match Tire Rack's prices.

$80-$120 per tire - for all season (AS) tires seems reasonable for a car like this. Yokohama, Hankook, Contintental have decent mid-priced tires in this $$ range.

Tire Rack for reviews. Sams Club has been able to beat all other local franchises when they have their discounts, which usually run for months at a time. (America’s/Discount Tire, Pep Boys, Big O, Firestone).

Edit: The advantage of America’s/Discount Tire is the amount of locations.

I just bought a set of Vredestein, but have yet to mount them. Bought from Tire Rack, thought they were a good deal for about $100/ea considering they have excellent reviews.

Discounttiredirect.com with free drop shipping to my mechanic for mounting.

They generally have better prices than tirerack, and local tire places. I also trust my mechanic more than the guys paid on commission to find issues on cars.

Define snowy area. If this means an occasional snow storm with limited snow fall, an all season tire should be fine. If this means regular snow storms with significant accumulations, you want a tire that has a true snow rating and not an all season tire. The issue is that a really good winter tire has softer compound, which if run during warmer weather (above 50F) will wear much faster.

That being said, some of the Michelins have high mileage life expectancy and do pretty well in snow.

Zip Code or the State and County might help.

A tire with the "three peak" M+S designation should be fine for year round use.

A true severe rated snow tire can get you 20% better stopping distances on snow and ice over a M+S tire, but as mentioned, will wear faster. The little grooves all over are what provide a lot of the extra traction and they are typically the first thing to wear down.

I think Michelin is running a $70 rebate on all passenger car tires right now.

I REALLY liked the Pirelli P4 4 season tires I had on my Forester. They were 90% as good on snow and ice as a dedicated snow tire but you can run them year round and they have a 90k mile treadlife.

I had those on an Avalon and liked them. I read at the time that the NYC undercover police fleet used them.

On a Camry I would be more likely to recommend good snow tires for winter use. For AWD cars, we do just fine with most M&S rated all season tires. We drive a lot of miles in the snow. It's all about keeping speed reasonable and driving defensively.

With sale tax being collected by almost everybody everywhere, online sales may not save much money compared to shopping locally.

There still may be advantages beyond pricing, but starting tomorrow, it may be tough to find an online that doesn't collect sales tax, if that's a consideration.

Many places started doing so for several states, months ago.
