Synagogue shooting. You don’t need to go to the theater to see a hero.

Lori Kaye. No costume. Her only superpower was her heart.

“When a gunman opened fire in a synagogue in California, killing one and injuring three others, Lori Kaye jumped between the shooter and the rabbi.

Kaye, 60, was shot at the synagogue and died at a nearby hospital.”

Lori sounded like a wonderful person, she'll be missed, I'm sure.

Lori acted to protect the defenseless a moment of terror; she deserved better than that choice to die or watch someone else be killed. We owe her, and all targeted people, better than thoughts and prayers and post-mortem thanks.

Remember that it's not the orientation of bigotry that is important - the targets will change from place to place. All bigotry holds this danger inside it - it's only a question of how clear the path is to causing harm.

Sorry, The 'orientation' does matter.
You are ignoring 1700 years of murderous hatred directed specifically against Jews.

It’s quite true some folks specialize in their hate. But that doesn’t mean RJ’s point is invalid. There will always be trees in a forest.

Too bad we can’t simply acknowledge a hero and leave it at that.

If you’re implying everyone specializes their hate it’s irrelevant for being factually wrong. If you’re implying everyone hates Jews then I think you already know that’s also not true. If you think RJ should have targeted his condemnation of some folks’ hatred against Jews you’re still missing the point. If you think I am somehow not aware of hatred and persecution against Jewish people for (1700 was your number) years then again, that’s a poor assumption.

Somehow you’ve confused my comment with an insensitivity towards hate against Jews, which is unfortunate.

Lori acted to protect a defenseless rabbi a moment of terror; she deserved better than the choice to be murdered by or watch someone else be killed by a violent anti-Semite. We owe her, and all Jewish people, better than thoughts and prayers and post-mortem thanks.

Remember that it is the orientation of bigotry that is important - the targets of anti-Semitism will remain vulnerable from synagogue to synagogue, no matter where they live. All anti-Semitism holds this danger inside it - it's only a question of how clear the path is to causing harm to Jewish people.
