Grinding a 20" telescope mirror

$100 seems cheap for shipping something like that. I figure just insurance would be that much.

I dunno - you could put a lot of padding around it for $100.

I presume it's insured.

it's not only the padding, you need to make sure you don't scratch it, keep it clean, etc.

I worked with very expensive optics (some serial production parts that are 5-10k, some prototype parts that are 10x more) and packing/shipping optics is not for amateurs.

That’s a nice little setup. The real magic is in the grinding compound. I remember the old Swiss guys protected their recipes...
