Limu Emu commercial question
Posted by: Lizabeth
Date: May 29, 2019 11:59AM
Okay, the Liberty Mutual commercials are pretty cheesy.

However, I've been doing internet searches on them to figure out if the Emu in the commercial is a real one (trained) or CG? I can't imagine that an emu would be easy to train or be willing to put up with the sunglasses and shirt. If it is CG, it's pretty damn good CG.

I haven't been able to find anything indicating either way.

Opinion/thoughts?

I think it's a stunt ostrich with a lot of makeup.

It may be a real one with CG clothing and glasses, along with CG background when it is running, etc.

The VFX team started by shooting a real life emu, Beaker, to create reference footage that has then been matched to build a fully CG bird; a digital double.

Does the digital bird peck at windows, or does that only happen when reflections are enabled in the simulator?

I don't care if it's real or Memorex.
I hate the commercials and their stupidness has culminated in my decision to never consider Liberty.

If you had a choice of either Liberty Mutual or Progressive based on their commmercials - which?

My congratulations to insurance marketeers for realizing that 'stupid' sells insurance. Sorry, but it's apparently true.

Stupid seems to be deemed the best way to sell a lot of things: bada book, bada boom, for instance. And most reality shows.

Kudos for the really great production effort to pull it off, but it's still one of the most annoying commercials ever...

Agree!
Liberty seems bent on pushing their 'accident forgiveness' add-on by using
examples of really bad (stupid?) drivers. To wit,
"you do all this research before buying a new car, then you crash it into a tree.
One accident and now they raise your rate. blah blah blah
"
(not verbatim, but you get the idea)

The idiots @ Liberty who OK'd this crap should be fired and if the CEO signed off
on it, he/she needs to go too!

Going by commercials alone, I'd pick GEICO. At least some of theirs are funny.

Progressive's are annoying, but Liberty's are not only annoying, but among the most inane I've ever seen.
