Apple Releases AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.9.1

......Apple today released AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.9.1 for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations with 802.11ac support.

According to a support document, the update addresses a number of security issues on the affected models.

The models covered by the update are the last generations of the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule, which were discontinued by Apple just over a year ago, although Apple continued to sell through its remaining stock for several more months.

firm and round......?!

Mr. Lynn,
This should help. Worked for me last night on my Time Capsule.

If I remember right, you need to launch your Airport software and then when you click on a base station in that, you'll see that a firmware update is available. If you're not seeing it, it may be still in rollout.

The light on your Airport should turn Amber and/or blink. I updated mine this morning. I checked the Airport Config app on my iPad and found the update waiting.

A blinking amber light alerted me to a firmware update for my pervious router.

This time I checked AirPort utility, clicked edit and saw Update in the field. It went smoothly.

Had I not done so, I assume that I'd get another blinking amber light on the Tower.

I've only just installed it. It's not as sexy looking as the F-117 looking types, but it's a lot more powerful than my 5th Gen AEBS. File transfers over wireless are notably faster, though I haven't done any thing from my MB to iMac (ac to ac).

Limited in function compared to other routers, and no web based access, It is nice looking and did perk up my WiFi. I just wish I had more throughput.

Last night, I inadvertently grabbed my “dead” 17” MBP and, lo and behold, it started! God, was it good to work on a 17” matte screen again. Tonight, I’ll connect the 3TB Time Capsule I have. If luck is still smiling on me, I”ll update the TC and then do a long overdue Time Machine backup. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

My AE router is on a high shelf in the basement, so I probably wouldn't have noticed an orange light unless I went looking for it.

The router does just what I want, which is to sit quietly and give me uninterrupted, steady networking.

Same here. My AEBS has been one of the most reliable, non-intrusive devices I've ever owned.

I'm really, really disappointed Apple decided to get out of the router game right when the market seemed to be taking off.

I have an Amplifi from Ubiquiti right now; works well, and I get better speeds than I did with my Airport setup back when. There were portions of the house that, no matter how many additional AESB or Express units I set up, they just lost the signal. The Amplifi is very good at that.

I had the eero for a bit -- seemed like the most Apple-like when I bought it -- but bailed shortly after Amazon bought them out. They weren't quite fulfilling their promises re/full speed throughout the house, either.

FWIW, If I had a one-story with an easy access attic setup, I would have hardwired the house years ago, and just used WiFi for things like iPhones & iPads and portables.

Mother Superior calls all of the nuns together for a meeting. "Sisters," she says, "I just learned we have a case of ghonerea in the convent." After a moment of stunned silence, an old nun replies, "What a blessing! I am so tired of the Chablis."

I want Apple to get back into the router business. The reliability and ease of use, and integration, is superb.

Just launch Airport Utility, click on your Airport in the graphic, then click upgrade. Wait for reboot, all done.

took about 3-4 minutes
