Say No to Raw Dough!

A warning from the CDC [www.cdc.gov]

I'm clearly made from quality stuff. I was more a cake batter kid. Beaters, bowls. My mother would season chicken on a wooden cutting board that was built into the countertop (it slid out). When she turned her head, I'd drag my finger on the board and enjoy that.

Queue Elton John. "I'm Still Standin'!"

I used to make a batch of cookie dough from scratch and leave in the fridge to enjoy throughout the week.
I used to eat hot dogs raw right out of the package, too.

Hot dogs are pre-cooked but still dangerous to eat "raw" since they may be contaminated with listeria.

His white blood cells crushed the listeria bad guys.

I recently purchased a container of pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough and treat myself to bits of it for dessert from time to time.

It is what it is.

I knew about raw eggs but not flour! And I had my share as a kid of hot dogs straight from the package.

We are all walking science experiments and biological misfits.

THIS is the link to my friend Julie's store in Atlanta. In her raw cookie dough, she uses no eggs and heat-treated flour to reduce this risk.

I'll be going to the Ponce City Market later this summer, so I'ma eat it. I'm bookmarking it.

Back in the 90's I lived a few blocks away from there and my then favorite eat spot called "Eats" is still across the street. I'll be going back there too. I notice on Google Map's Street View, that the Zesto's is no longer there.

Instead of car seats, parents used to put babies in laundry baskets wrapped in a bath towel. Never heard of anything bad happening. It's fine!

When I was a kid, we had fewer kids! On account of the deaths from e. coli, etc. And I survived just fine!

Winner, winner, under cooked chicken dinner.

My childhood was awash in hot dogs eaten raw, from both Oscar Mayer and the butcher. The butcher had the best dogs. This was back in the days when common folk went to butchers all the time, not just the boho salon or Silicon Valley chicken coop in the backyard crowd.

But isn't that only if the processing plant screws up?

If the screwups happen often enough that the package instructs you to heat the frankfurter to 165ºF before eating it, then it's not a bug, it's a feature!

Your USDA at work!
