More sad than Mad. Mad Magazine shutting down... — WAIT! No Worries??

UPDATE: A source close to A.E Neumann says all is not lost! They’ll have to work for it, but future generations of kids may yet have the chance to have their brain damaged and IQ lowered in the great tradition of Mad.

After close to seventy years, Mad magazine will cease publication.

One of my first explorations into stupid, absurd humor.

Dang. I don't read it anymore, but when I was young I looked forward to it every month.

They relaunched it last year and the new version absolutely sucked, so it’s actually a blessing they’re shutting it down forever. I have so many fond memories of the original version, as do millions of other people...

How freaky that you picked that issue to show. That was the very first issue I purchased. I was 11. I felt so subversive reading it.

In the show BERLIN STATION, one of the CIA agents gives a copy of SPY VS SPY to his lover.

[en.wikipedia.org]

"Spy vs. Spy is a wordless comic strip published in Mad magazine. It features two agents involved in stereotypical and comical espionage activities. One is dressed in white, and the other in black, but they are otherwise identical, and are particularly known for their long, beaklike heads and their white pupils and black sclera. The pair are always at war with each other, using a variety of booby-traps to inflict harm on the other. The spies usually alternate between victory and defeat with each new strip. A parody of the political ideologies of the Cold War, the strip was created by Cuban expatriate cartoonist Antonio Prohías, and debuted in Mad #60, dated January 1961.[1] Spy vs. Spy is currently written and drawn by Peter Kuper."

A big Berlin Station and MAD fan; I saw that episode and really laughed out loud.

I didn't subscribe but bought many an issue and paperback.

It was hilarious in the old days.

I used to watch DeBartolo on the Giz Whiz.

He was still pretty entertaining.
